How We Research Smart Home Products
HomeTechVerdict is a research site, not a test lab. We want you to know exactly how each guide is made, so you can decide how much weight to give it.
What we do not do
- We do not run hands-on or lab tests, and we never claim to.
- We do not invent prices. Prices change daily, so we link to the live Amazon listing instead.
- We do not invent product codes, video links, ratings, or review counts.
- We do not accept payment from manufacturers for placement or positive coverage.
Where our information comes from
Every article starts from primary sources: manufacturer specification sheets, support and compatibility pages, and official app or ecosystem documentation (Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, Matter). We then look at independent expert reviews and recurring patterns in verified owner feedback, especially complaints about reliability, app quality, subscriptions, and setup. Articles list the pages we relied on in a Sources section at the end.
How AI is used
Drafts are written with AI assistance so we can keep a fast-moving market covered and up to date. Before an article is published, automated checks reject drafts that contain testing claims, hardcoded prices, unverified product codes, missing sources, or near-duplicate text from our other pages. Existing articles are revisited on a schedule and updated when a product, spec, or compatibility fact changes. The "Updated" date only changes when the content actually does.
How we rank products
Our ratings are editorial judgments about how strongly we would recommend a product for a specific use, based on the research above. They are not lab scores, and they are not Amazon star ratings. When a cheaper product fits the use case better than a pricier one, the cheaper one wins.
How we make money
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. That never decides which product wins. See our affiliate disclosure for details.
